Ultimately, you have to take responsibility.
Oct 09, 2023“Doctors won’t make you healthy.
Nutritionists won’t make you slim.
Teachers won’t make you smart.
Gurus won’t make you calm.
Mentors won’t make you rich.
Trainers won’t make you fit.
Ultimately, you have to take responsibility.
Save yourself.”
Naval Ravikant
In a world where we often look outside of ourselves to solve our inner problems, the quote above by Naval on ‘saving yourself’ serves as a potent reminder of a fundamental truth:
the power to shape & transform our lives lies within ourselves.
It’s easy to get caught in the trap of consuming information and seeking ‘the answers’ outside. I’ve been there myself, and have spent hours/years immersed in a world of self-help books, YouTube videos, business podcasts and I’ve probably tried almost every supplement under the sun.
But amidst this endless quest for external solutions, I was forgetting to do the work. I was watching YouTube gurus to feel calm and tranquil when I could have been doing breathwork and meditation, I was listening to business mentors when I could have been building a business, I was researching supplements for better performance when I could have been investing more energy into the gym and my qigong practice.
This shift from consumption to creation has had a profound impact on my life: although other people could illuminate the way for me; only I could walk my own path. And by doing more walking (more creating) I have experienced much more satisfaction, growth and empowerment in my life.
Although it's not always an easy path, and there are hard choices to be made, it is a path of empowerment, where we become the masters of our own destinies, where we create more abundance and joy in our lives.
So perhaps reflect on 'taking responsibility' this week, and think to yourself - is there any part of my life where I could be consuming less and creating more?
